Lesson information
I offer private violin lessons in the heart of Copenhagen, with flexible options to meet each student’s needs. Lessons are available in person, online, or in a hybrid format, and can also be arranged at an agreeable location when needed.
I teach students of all ages and levels, from young beginners taking their first steps with the violin to advanced students preparing for auditions and conservatory study. Beginning students are introduced to the instrument through the Suzuki Method, which emphasizes listening, healthy technique, and learning music naturally and confidently from the start.
For more advanced students, I offer focused instruction in audition and conservatory preparation, including support for MGK, musikgymnasium, and higher-level entrance exams. Lessons can also include music theory, ear training, and practice strategies, ensuring students develop strong musicianship alongside technical skill.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual student, with an emphasis on clear goals, steady progress, and a supportive learning environment that encourages both musical growth and enjoyment through the Siegfried Philosophy.

The Siegfried teaching Philosophy:
The Siegfried Violin Studio is rooted in a name that carries both legend and legacy. In German mythology, Siegfried is the brave prince who forges his strength through discipline and courage, slaying a dragon with skill earned through perseverance with his mighty sword.
In my own life, Siegfried is my middle name and the name of my grandfather - Siegfried Knippert a German architect who designed and built hundreds of homes, schools, and community spaces. Also being a musician himself, he would play traditional polka’s and folk tunes in his spare time on accordion.
In his work, he understood that every great structure begins with a solid foundation. In the same way, my teaching philosophy is built on the belief that true musical freedom comes from strong fundamentals. By focusing on healthy technique, thoughtful practice, and musical understanding, I help students build skills that support their growth and confidence - so they can enjoy music for a lifetime.

“We build musicians the way my grandfather built his structures: thoughtfully, patiently, and on foundations meant to last.”
Who is Suzuki and why do I teach his method?
The Suzuki Method was created by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, a Japanese violinist and teacher.
He developed the method in the mid-20th century after noticing that all children learn their native language naturally by listening and repetition. Dr. Suzuki believed that musical ability is not a special talent you’re born with, but something that can be developed in anyone with the right approach, environment, and encouragement.
The Suzuki Method is a gentle, proven way to learn the violin that starts just like learning a language. Children learn music the same way they learn to speak: by listening, copying, repeating, and being encouraged every step of the way.
Instead of starting with reading music, students first learn by ear. They listen to recordings, watch the teacher, and learn how to hold the violin and make a beautiful sound right from the beginning. Reading music is introduced gradually, once the instrument feels comfortable and familiar.
The Suzuki Method believes that every child can learn music with the right environment, patience, and support. Parents are involved in the learning process, especially for younger students, helping practice at home and celebrating progress. Lessons focus on confidence, good posture, careful listening, and steady improvement, making learning violin enjoyable, motivating, and successful.

Yes, I teach all levels and ages! My students range from age 7 to 70 from those picking up an instrument for the the very first time to musicians who have been playing for over a decade!

With beginning students I teach from the Suzuki method with a strong emphasis on note reading and technique, as well as structuring my approach based on the students different learning strong suits. I am also happy to teach at whatever pace you are most comfortable with.

This completely depends on the students age and how self-sufficient they are. However, with young students between 4-7, you should be expected to be part of the lessons as well as being able to practice with them at home. This is due simply to younger students not being able to retain information and muscle memory for so long in between lessons, and therefore will need to be guided at home for proper progression.
I recommend 8-10 year old beginning students to also have parental guidance, however, there is more room for independence at this age

Learning violin in the beginning can be especially frustrating, as the learning curve is more steep than other instruments. However, the more time a student is able to dedicate to practicing the faster they will progress.
I encourage my students to practice for a certain amount of time everyday depending on age and level. However, I understand that for some this is just not realistic and would like to treat learning the violin more so as a fun hobby to enrich their life.
So lets see what your goals are and I can help guide the way:)

— Mia Høgh
“Nikolai is both a skilled musician and a patient teacher. As an adult beginner, I’ve felt supported from the start in a calm environment where I can progress at my own pace. I would recommend him to beginners of all ages, as he meets each student where they are. Learning to play the violin is by no means easy, but Nikolai makes the process structured as well as enjoyable.”
